Thanks! a picture is indeed worth alot. Do you use both mats upstairs or one up and one down? They look like double sized.

If it's just going to be one person sleeping up there you can get a Big Agnes park series sleeping bag and air mattress with a memory foam pad and leave it all up there when you put down the top. The park bags are nice and roomy. They are too wide to fit two of them up there, though. Other wise you can go with one of their narrower (20") sleeping bag and pad sets and still be pretty comfy. The nice thing about the big agnes stuff is there's no rolling off the pad and their very comfy. The down side is the price. But there stuff is well made.

We used to use ThermaRest pads. The problem we found was with big changes in elevation. Going up into the mountains, the ThermaRests would expand and push on the top. The only cure was to leave the valves open on the pads. Then close the valves after reaching a campsite.

Now we use a memory foam pad. It doesn't change with altitude and for me it is more comfortable.

I always leave deflated and the valves open because of elevation change's . and Joanna the photograph's are of the twin pad's folded in half . We use them the majority of the time and the thicker Cabelas Alaskan (lge) when my wife's back begins to flare up , she has even doubled them up a couple of time's after a particular long day in her Tote N Float .

Mike and others,
Do you guys leave the memory foam pad on top of the penthouse bed all the time (i.e. when roof is closed and driving)? If so, how thick is your pad?

We have a 2" pad and it stays on the penthouse bed all the time. We can leave both sheets and a thin blanket up there also, but anything else has to come off before we put the top down.

We have a 2inch memory foam pad that stays on the PH bed all the time with the sheets.

Ditto ditto - have 2 inches foam pad plus sheets up there, pillows and comforter come off before the lid goes down.
