Three piece bed

I have an older SMB-1995. It has a 3 piece bed. It is kind of a PITA because I have to stack it and I'm always using 1/3 of the standing area for the bed pieces.

Is there a clever way to get the 3 pieces to raise up with the roof as I have seen done with the single piece beds?

I think I could run a couple of oak 1x2s and some high strength sailing line that would work but wanted to see if anyone else had addressed this issue.

Why not simply use the same cable loop/hook hangers that SMB uses on later year two piece PH bed platforms? Easy to make yourself.

I just need to get over to SMB and look at some of the used vans to see how this was done. I didn't really pay attention when shopping, now it is something I notice. My (poor) memory was that the newer models had a one piece design.

I'm guessing that the one-piece beds are on SMBs with electric tops...you probably wouldn't want to manually raise a penthouse with a one-piece bed hanging from it.

If your springs are set right it shouldn't matter. I think the one piece is usually in the walk through layouts, whereas the later 50s have the 1/3, 2/3 split. The SMB style is just small cleats and a cable loop, the latter is available at any hardware store not sure about the cleats. I think I've seen a L-shaped strap that is fastened on the bottom of the bed in a DIY post somewhere.

Incidentially when I want to get rid of the rear 1/3 I just turn it up so it sits on end and leans on the back of the PH canvas. If you do that with all 3 you'll only be taking up about 12".
