Jage,
I think this is the TOAST thread I remembered wen we were making toast this last weekend in Big Bend Ranch State Park....
We had wanted to make toast to have with oatmeal for breakfast.
We did not want to use a real toaster because of the energy usage.
I was thinking of the frying pan method and brought along a small frying pan that is the lid to a cook kit, and we were going to use our portable propane stove....
....but when it came down to it, we decided to try our little George Forman grill.
We used some no-fat low-cal spray on butter (don't ask how you have butter with no fat, 'cause I don't get it), and the little grill made a pieces of toast in far less time than our toaster at home and it was a nice piece of toast. It even has little grill marks.
SO I think we have found our toast solution.
The best part is that the same little grill can grill sandwiches in no time flat. It also cooks two small chicken breasts or obe large one about 5 minutes. ...and it does the same for steaks.
AND it is tiny.
We used this to cook steak or chicken ever night in BBRSP, and we toasted our sandwiches for lunch, and we made toast for breakfast.
This little gem is staying in the SMB permanently.
