Toaster / Toaster Oven?

I was over on RV.net and those guys have laundry lists for appliances and I'm suprised at how many have toaster ovens (along with George Foreman grills, electric skillets, blenders etc) Crazy!

I need a toaster because I have to eat gluten free bread and it just isn't edible unless toasted. I've been using a propane stove toast rack, but it's only passable and I'm looking for the easies "on the road" solution for quick sandwiches.

So I'm thinking having a toaster is going to be a requirement. It seems pretty common in the C and A class, but then again they run everything but a wok.

I'm wondering who here runs a toaster, and what you do... do you just buy a walmart toaster and plug it in or is there some better solution?

Can I run a toaster on an invertor?

Running 110VAC appliances off 12VDC batteries is what the inverter is designed to do.
Yes, it will run either Your {Wal Mart} toaster or toaster oven.
We use our inverter for appliances, mostly the Microwave, but also TV, VCR, {Foreman} electric grill, shaver, lights, etc.

Kenkillsr - You have a generator, a serious set of batteries, run your engine while using all that stuff??
I agree that it all works (that's what we do in the Baja abode) but we have lots of panels and batteries. You have a neat trick that I need to know about??

No Generator.

Engine run only for travel.

Plugged in whenever available to keep up two [2] 200 A AGM under the dinette.

Didn't say we do it all at once.

Judicious use saves battery power.

No trick to that.

I've seen a 12V pizza oven listed somewhere; that should work and use a lot less energy than going 12v->110->DC again.

We tried the camp stove toaster thing, and gave up with it. Instead, we use a teflon skillet and just toast by frying. Can throw a little butter in the pan if you want, but not required. Works fine.

Yup, the two AGM's really help. Lot's of amp hours available. We never end up anywhere where we can plug in. I've been meaning to talk with the Mexican Govt about electrifying (is that a word when it's not an adjective?) some of the cordons.... Maybe next year.

Jage, what did you end up getting? I think I saw a toaster oven in one of your past pics.

I got a 1300W toaster oven/ toaster at Target. The top slides open to act like a toaster and there is a tray that you can do toaster oven stuff with. It works out pretty good, although with the 400 amp hour system (2x 4D AGMs) I still only get about 3 good days without being conservative.

I toast almost every meal so this is/was/has been an essential part of my traveling.

The toaster rides in my "microwave sized" drawer, it takes up half widthwize and is barely longer than the open drawer, but about 5" shorter than the full drawer. The only downside is the rattle as I haven't adjusted the fridge compressor and the counters vibrate.

The propane one looks BIG. Still my setup kills your batteries which makes it an expensive solution.

Out of pure curiosity, what's wrong with "frying" your toast in a pan? We tried the camp stove toasters, and thought they sucked. Now we simply brown them in a fry pan on each side.

I'm still waiting for the ultimate Dog House Mod: Someone needs to insert a pizza oven housing in the dog house so that we can bake pizza while driving off the heat from the turbo.
