My Guess

It's a vanity cabinet. The top part looks like it has a mirror with 4 clips (each side) and you are seeing the reflection of the curtains on the opposite wall. The hole in the top is to access the drawer/shelf.

My parents had a 1980 Ford van that we used as a camper when we were growing up. They had a similar set up like that picture. They used to put a plastic tub in the hole that you see and use it as a sink/wash basin. just fill it with water and wash. When you were done just pick up the basin and throw out the water. It worked fine.

I should add that there was a kitchen sink in there too...but a wash basin/vanity maybe better to use since it is much bigger....

I also think that optionally you could put a small camp stove there too.
