Two Mini Longhair Dachshunds

These are my main travel pups. They are sisters (have the same parents), but are from different litters.

I dropped in an old milk crate between the front seats, so they can walk straight across, from the passenger seat to driver's seat. The crate has a small mat on top so their feet don't fall through. On the aft part of the milk crate, I installed a small ramp so they don't need to jump up/down to access the rear of the van.

Warning: If there is any food left unattended, anywhere in the van, they will get it. They'll chew through mountaineering rucksacks, tin foil, Tupperware–whatever it takes. Its like driving with two reef sharks in the van.

Meet Baloo, who loves the seats, but usually rides between them since Mrs Spaze is usually my copilot.

Can we talk dog mounts/tie downs? My van was previously a cargo van and has a little dinky D ring on the floor, but I have little faith it will hold Baloo should the worst happen. Its mounted securely through the floor with a backing plate under it as well, but the "D" itself is super small, and I figure the weight of Baloo will just mangle it.

I was thinking about putting a larger recessed D-ring in the floor in the middle of the van. That way he has some free roam, but is also more secure.

This is Annie in her usual spot in the Westy. This shot, what I call her cheesecake pose, is while coming home from the dog park but on longer trips she looks out the right side window or naps across the seat. In the big Dodge we're planning to build we'll probably have a third seat or some kind of carpeted/padded platform for her.

What a GREAT THREAD!! First time seeing this one! What a beautiful bunch of dogs! My wife and I are allergic and live vicariously through all our dog owner friends...and a good wash-up and change of clothes after...all worth it. MORE PICS!! I know most love their dog a bit more than the kids...lololol! Hope this thread stays on here a few days longer!

Wait, come back! Right after mama and her boy got out of the van.

I'll get a better picture someday, but she usually curls up on the floor between the front seats and sleeps. I'm not certain she can stay awake in the van. Click image for larger version
