Re: Where does your dog ride?

Herb,

Good points. Imagine we'll tinker with it when installed.

The versatie is flush mounted and the dog has big paws. There's 2 tracks, one on each side of the hallway. Dog gets anchored in the middle, so she'd have to really reach to hit the track. We got the plastic cover strips to fill up empty track rails.

So, the answer is hopefully not, and if we mess up the dog will let us know quickly!

Has anyone else tried using this sort of set-up? We'd welcome advice.

Re: Where does your dog ride?

OT. When at home, does your dog like to "deliver" the mail? Mine does and so do a bunch more, it appears.

Where does your dog ride?

No dog but our 23 pound cat "Buddy" likes to just cruise around. We took him down to the coast for our Christmas pic and he really wanted to climb down under the pedals, after the second time the wife clipped on his leash and had ahold of him so he was hugging the doghouse. Funny I thought. I guess he liked the warmth and the noise or rumble. Pic to follow.

Re: Where does your dog ride?

Versatie track working well. No stuck paws or claws. The anchor keeps the dog from climbing on our captain's chairs, also.

Working on a design for a spill-proof water bowl that will fit in the barn door step up. Tired of kicking and spilling the water bowl several times a day.
First thing we figured out: aluminum baking dish from Wal-Mart makes a great water trough that fits in the step area. Does break down after about 2 weeks of use. Now to make something durable and spill proof. Ideas/suggestions welcome.

Re: Where does your dog ride?

Sherri found this at our local pet store. Never spilled a drop in the last 10K miles.
It won't fit in the barn door foot well but it rides on the floor in the niche between the bench seat and the box on the side door.

You can find it here...

It comes in a couple of different sizes...

We had to get it not only for the road but also because one of our psycho water dogs loves to jump into his water dish with both feet and splash it all over. He's the happy one in this picture.

Viejo, thanks for the tip on the water bowl. Got to love Porties, our's does the same thing sometimes.

Can anyone give some input as to how the ultraleather withstands large dog paws? Does it scratch easily?

Re: Where does your dog ride?

I don't have experience with the ultra leather, in fact our van is cloth.

That cloth has not help up to digging as well as the leather in our Volvo has. The Volvo seats are scratched, and the coloring on them is marred. However they have not failed and turned into a pile of shredded foam like one of our van seats did during a single morning, despite exposure to multiple rounds of our dog wanting to dig for safety.

So, while the stakes might be higher with leather, so far it's been a win for us.

BTW, the foam pad isn't so bad from Ford, but the xlt seat cover is $ouch. Thankfully half a day of semi-skilled sewing resulted in something that was close enough for us to live with.

When we're driving, our dog rides on an over-sized fitted sheet that goes over all the bedding on top of the (non-folding) bed. He's about 50-50 between napping and looking out the back windows. I'm very happy with the over-sheet as he's big and fuzzy and drops sand wherever he lays.
