JWA,

Looks to me like you need an upgrade! Thanks for the photos, those are a good representation of the output for the sealed beam units.

Wrapped up a very clean set of chrome lights for a fellow SMB member this evening.

So, These are bright, but not obnoxious for oncoming drivers and those in front of our vehicles. I love the idea of better, brighter headlights, but I do not want to blind those around me. Not saying they do, just wondering about possible side effects. Thanks!

Skyrat,

That's correct. The projectors have a shield within the body that allows for light output below a defined cutoff line. When aligned correctly, that cutoff line hits cars in front of you at a level that keeps the main beam out of the peoples' eyes and mirrors. They will be able to tell the lights are on, but if you are above the cutoff line the lights simply look like they are dim. When the high beam is activated, a solenoid pulls the cutoff shield out of the way. This opens the output of the projector to use the entire reflecting surface to produce a very full and bright light. Note that the bulb output does not change for the high beam, rather the shield moves and allows the full beam output from the projector's bowl. By not changing the bulb's output you will get longer bulb life as well.

I had an HID kit installed in my original halogen housings and it threw light all over the place including oncoming drivers' eyes. They would flash me all the time. Since I have had the projectors, I have yet to be flashed for the errant light output issue.

Just curious Scott about the choice for housings. Not to bash anything but most of those used so far don't appeal to me visually, not sure why that is---personal preference maybe?

Your conversion could be done on the OEM housings too correct?

JWA,

Doing the conversion in the factory housings would not yield results to justify the amount of labor. The factory lens has refraction lines built in to create the desired output Ford specified. The aftermarket housings with the clear lenses are desirable for the retrofitter as the full output of the projector can be realized. There are only a couple of manufacturers for the aftermarket housings and they all seem to use the same/similar design.

Every set of the black housing lights I complete makes me want some for myself! I will stick with my chrome versions for now, but one of these days......!
