2001 GMC Savana SMB 100K

Howdy,
I posted before but don't see it anywhere. We are FINALLY! getting our van after 20 years plus 5 of semi-serious looking. Prices are coming down a little bit in Southern California. This van was reduced to 18,500. We checked it out and also spoke with the mechanic who did work on it recently:

Three questions for the sages:
1. We figure we have at least another 50k on this engine, maybe less on the transmission. Any mechanical glitches common with this year/model?

2. Drove great as one would expect---solid, powerful but steady, and quiet. Temp stayed right around 180-200 during a five minute idle in a local parking lot. Sound about right?

3. The penthouse has a rip. Its been patched and I don't see any water damage. There's mildew or dirt on the outside but not the inside unrelated to the rip. Does sportmobile offer replacement parts or in this case, swatches to patch?

Anything you would caution or does anything seem out of the ordinary--- we know high mileage is the rule rather than the exception---a tradeoff for a solid build and easily accessible replacement parts.

Congratulations on finding your rig! We'll need some (buncha) pictures in order to better be able to answer your questions... plus it's just fun to see another SMB. What engine does it have?

Congrats.

100k miles? Should be good for many more miles.

2500? 3500? What version of van?

Temps sound normal, my 2008 stays at 210.

Not aware of penthouse fabric repair, if the patch is working I would just keep an eye on it. You can get the entire canvas penthouse replaced.

Look under the hood for the tag - or write down your VIN number and then go on line to look up your drivetrain components. We need to know that before making knowledgeable comments.

Generall, those GM vans are a nice reliable rig. I drove one for 32+ years...but it was a different generation than yours!
