Welcome Vocal and thanks for the tale . I’m sorry you have/had to endure the frustration.

Love your interior ... happy travels!

Zero. They have done none. But they are starting to build sports Mobile‘s with the high roof from master. But they aren’t putting the pop tops on them anymore. My understanding was that they took delivery of five tops, installed the first one on my van, and then never built another because the top doesn’t fit quite right on the vans, as they found out after doing mine. My guess would be that they have to either modify the three remaining fiber glass tops somehow, or re-design them and wait for them to be produced and delivered. But so far, it’s just my van that has a working and functional sportsmobile top on it. One of their employees, as I stated above, took one of the tops and permanently attached it to the roof of his van, but it is not functional. It has no canvas and no lifting mechanism, it’s just the physical fiberglass top bolted to the roof of his van. My guess is that he bought the low top 136 inch wheelbase with the plan of having his van down as well, but after my catastrophe, He decided to just cut the roof off and put the fiberglass top on to give him full standing height. Otherwise, I don’t know why he would do that. I have to assume he bought the lower roof intending to put a functional popped up on it, but that did not work out after they did mine.

They also advertise a manual lift instead of electric, but they would not install that in mine, even though that was my preference. They said it was indeed available, but they were not willing to put the manual roof on the van. It made no sense. It was also $2000 less, so I’m thinking they were just pushing to get more money out of this van.

It may have been due to the size of the pop-top. Isn't the size a fair amount larger than for Ford/Chevy vans?

No, it’s smaller. They only made the 5 tops for the 136” wheelbase.
After it was put in one of the guys that works in the bed he told me that they have the manual lift mechanism’s in Texas, and they had one there at their shop but they did not want to install them anymore. I asked him how reliable the actuator would be if I put my roof up and down several times a day and he said like any electric motor, it should just last forever. I believe that. But I still would have preferred the manual le after it was put in one of the guys that works in the bed he told me that they have the manual lift mechanism’s in Texas, and they had one there at their shop but they did not want to install them anymore. I get that reaction a lot, LOL. It’s funny because I write exactly how I speak. Oh, and by the way: you’re welcome. :-)

And thanks for having me, I’m glad to be here. :-)

Welcome and glad you are enjoying the van regardless. Sorry to hear about the problems. You are not the first to complain about Sportsmobile West.
