And his story:
So this is the real thing.
It's first major trip was to Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland and back across Canada. That was the shake down and we proved it was fully ready and we were up for more.
When it was two years old, we put it in a 40' shipping container in LA and four weeks later we flew to Aukland, NZ.
We toured for six months and explored both islands with ocean kayaks and mountain bikes.
We again shipped it, this time from Christchurch to Brisbane, Australia. We spend a year touring, circumnavigation (anti) counter-clockwise, then up through the center and down through the Blue Mountains and over to Tasmania for a month in the roaring 40's.
We put it back in a container in Melbourne bound for LA. While it was being shipped we rented a place in Hobart for another month and lived on our bikes.
During this once-in-a-lifetime adventure we replaced six tires, an alternator and the under frame battery.
Just so you know, I was raised in an adventurist family and my parents had a '71 Westfalia they bought in Europe. They spent several winters in Morocco and Spain. I cut my teeth off-roading and exploring Baja in a used Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser with a 327ci small block Chevy stuffed under the hood. I had that for 10 years and drove it until it rusted to death.
This van was my dream machine and we bought it new to start our retirement. It still has another life ahead of it but at 64 my interests and activities have shifted. So best wishes to the next generation. Keep Exploring!!
