DIY high roof install from a wrecked conversion van. Got the roof and all interior trim for $200. DIY paint matching with Duplicolor perfect match (worked pretty darn good). Also got rear vent windows from a '94 to help in air circulation from front to rear when sleeping.
Interior
Modded the 16" high roof "TV top". I used the TV location to mount a 6k BTU window air conditioner (smallest I could find). I created baffles to segregate intake cooling air from exhaust air. Installed 2 ventline pop up vents on either side and had to add a booster fan to force the exhaust air out of the roof cavity. It works great at night and in shade. No luck when temps get over 100F outside in the desert.
Also designed/installed 4 bunks, a bench, swivel seats up front.
Wheels, Tires, & Suspension
Stock wheels, E rated tires, HD springs in the rear to help with tongue weight sag.
Under the Hood
Stock 4.6L w/ MSD coils, 8mm plug wires, standard reliability stuff. Always run synthetic. K&N air filter.
Systems, Solar, & Electronics
Small converter to run computers, small appliances. Use an external generator or shore power for the AC. 110v outlets & USB ports throughout the van.
