Not impossible, but perhaps a little more difficult. It could extend beyond the windshield a bit, with some sort of exo-skeleton support, very custom obviously but well within the capability of any good fab shop or home brewer.

Try to find a Yakima Basket case. They arent as heavy duty as the one you posted, but they are 24" wide. They arent made anymore, so you have to check ebay. But if you did one of those with a lightbar, youd be pretty close.

That roof basket was made by rola. Haven’t found one quite like it though.

I bought this rack today. It is two pieces, with the front half just at 3 feet long. That's almost exactly the distance from the top of the windshield to the back of the cab. It would be easy enough to cut off the end tubes and weld them to the back of the front half, but once I put it on the roof, it just looks too narrow, and out of proportion, so I intend to return it and look further for a wider one. Still, it was a good proof of concept.

I bought a used Kargo Master gutter mount rack a few years ago, from a guy who had it on a Jeep Cherokee.
I sliced, diced, shortened and narrowed it, welding it all back together. Added a KM shovel, axe, and HighLift Jack holders, spare tire mount, all to fit my old Tin Top Samurai. But I do that, find things that are close to what I am looking for, then cut it up and make it my vision.
It's a sickness I tell ya!

Look familiar?
Saw this van for sale at SMB Austin.

Maybe see if SMB-TX can ask the owner for info about the rack?

I looked into that same rack a while back and found out Aluminess made it. It was a custom one off, not something they sell.

I use a set of INNO gutter mount roof racks and have attached a Rhino Rack steel mesh platform (half size) to it. I usually strap chairs up there, but the main thing I wanted was somewhere to place my 100w solar panel while the top was up and not have to worry about which way the van was orientated at the camp site in regards to sun. (keeps the panel in the sun all day long) Here are a couple of pictures. If you zoom in on them you can see it better. Hope that helps you.
