2008 Ford Van

Anything "definitive" on the redesigned 2008 Ford Van?
Other 2008 model vehicles are in showroom/rollilng off the factory floors.
I read of the changes/spec. released by Ford earlier in the year, but as you know, things do change when it finally goes into production.

Quote:
All-new, F-Series Super Duty-inspired front-end design makes a bold statement while improving engine capability with increased airflow.

Revised steering system and front and rear suspensions improve driving dynamics, braking performance to help drivers navigate urban streets.

Improvements also increase load carrying capability, including class-leading gross vehicle weight rating of 14,500 pounds.

Passenger wagons feature all-new seats for commercial customers who take on the most grueling city driving conditions.

All-new, segment-exclusive E-Guard Cargo Protection Systemâ„¢ is a double-lock design that adds cargo security straight from the factory.

Ford-exclusive, AdvanceTrac® with RSC is standard on E-350 passenger wagons with the 5.4-liter V-8. Exclusive engine-only traction control system is now available on all other models.
I go back and forth on the new styling. With the modifications made to most SMBs, I'm not sure how many of the other new features will affect SMBs. The increased airflow from the new grill is an interesting thought though.

When I was picking up my van I asked Alan at SMBw about the new vans, and I believe he said they expected to start getting them in October...

At least you didn't stick that grill on my Bronco!

More interested in the powertrain (engine) diesel engine? 6.4 or 6.0?

Undecided as to smb or quigley 4x4 or other 4x4 upfitter mentioned here.
i am based in northeast to midatlantic area, my overiding concern is servicing an smb 4x4 if the need arises, (having go to back to frenso, ca only to get it servied???) whereas quigley 4x4 can be done at most ford shop...

I am pretty set with my floor plan, options (minimal), etc...

if everything falls in line, my target (for acquistion) is early 2009, thus placing order sometimes in 2008 (spring/summer)?

Oh, I put the 6.4L in those pictures when I put the grills on.

SMB is standard 4x parts. Dana 60s and Atlas II are common in the 4x world. You get a parts list and an alignment chart with your purchase. There is really no reason you have to take it to SMB for service (except where warranty cost might be involved??).

I think I heard that the E-series Ford is not yet spec'd to have the 6.4L but for 2008 will remain with the 6.0L diesel. THis is another factor that is delaying the delieries.

SMB on order

i read that the 2008 will have double wall construction...
with this set up, i can see injecting expanding foam giving you tigher insulation...v batting insulation...

does smb offer expanding foam insulation as an option...
i see/read that they use (have used) batting over a sound/heat sheeting...???

Ford 08 Arrives at SMB West

Here it is. Brand new Ford 2008 RB.
Took this picture on 9/17.
John K didn't even have a price sheet for the '08's yet. We put together my build list based upon an assumed 3% cost increase.
6.0 Diesel SMB is happy about that.
Dana 60 standard rear
John K didn't mention anything about double wall construction or any option involving foam insulation. Just the standard batts.
He did say that a standard Ford item are tire pressure monitors. Not as advanced as the Hella system. The Ford package wouldn't tell you which particular tire is going low. I'm budgeting the Hella until I get more information.
I really don't like the styling of the front grille and since you guys have already scarfed up all the '07's will persue an aftermarket option if one exists.
