Hi guys

My EGT on the flat hoovers around 600 and on steep and long hills I've never seen above 800. So I'm kind of surprised at all your numbers. I guess it has to do with probe location. Mine is directly into the turbo. My numbers are comparable to my buddy who also has the same set up as mine; probe in turbo... Those are both stock 6.0 4x4 ambo that weight around 12K to 13K lbs

I took for granted that it was Fahrenheit as everything else on my unit is in F° but now you have me second guessing myself, lol. Had to double check and my numbers are in F°

I'm not the person to diagnose 'why', but I don't see how that's possible (never over 800). Something isn't right.

Gotta agree with twoxentrix on this one. Normal cruising EGTs should be ~700-900F on flat ground at 65mph or so. That's pre-turbo in the up-pipe or manifold.

It's hard to tell from the pic but is the probe mounted post-turbo?

As you guys can see from the picture I posted above my probe is directly after the turbine, so between the turbo and the downpipe. This way I get reading from both sides of the engine unlike when probed into the manifold or up-pipe. At the end of the day these readings are useful when compared to your normal baseline so you only start to worry when it goes outside of your established parameters.

Agreed, and with that placement you also are monitoring all cylinders instead of just one side. The main thing is knowing what temps to limit the exhaust to. My probe was originally located post-turbo in the downpipe and I would add 250 to 300F to the readings with 1000F being my upper limit. My understanding is that was about the same as 1300F pre-turbo. Getting much above that for extended periods and melting a piston becomes a reality.

Anyway, when I did all my heat mods I replaced the up-pipe (the bellows were starting to crack) with an MRBP up-pipe with flex bellows and welded a bung and installed the EGT probe close to merge of the Y instead of in the manifold. Thus, I am also monitoring both sides but the temperature isn't as hot. I checked with a heat gun and the amount of cooling is about 50F so I add that into my readings.

With heat mods (cerakoting and wrapping the pipes) and a cat delete with a better muffler EGTs were reduced ~150 to 200F. I'm making close to 400HP with PCM and FICM tuning and don't have heat issues.
