7.3 oil change?

Need to do the first oil change on new to me rig, '02 with 241,000 on the odo. Any suggestions on type of oil (ie: is amsoil worth it?) or good places in Portland, OR to have the oil change done? Thanks for the help.

Re: 7.3 oil change?

Get an oil with CJ-4 or CI-4 certification. Conventional oil or synthetic, your choice.

BTW, Amsoil is not certified to meet standards. They claim it is better, but no certification. Lots of people use it and swear by it, but I will stick with oils certified to meet industry standards.

Agree with Mike. Looking at all of the taxicab studies and testimonials out there I've come to the conclusion that the synthetics may last longer but the mineral oils are just as good. Now for the flame-wars

Re: 7.3 oil change?

Our fleet uses Delo with lab oil testing. I can't say AMSOIL is any better than other synthetic but it's supposed to save you money by changing every 15K rather than the manufacture recommended times. I have yet to lengthen out my oil changes and don't plan to but twin filter systems are a key factor IMO, Amsoil or other aftermarket. I feel I should have gone with Mobile 1 syn after break in, but took the AMSOIL plunge. Unreal how different the engine ran after the switch. I don't know if the Mobile 1 is any better or worse, but probably cheaper.

BTW you need to run a cleanser before switching over to Amsoil.
