Allstate no longer insuring RVs

My Allstate agent contacted me a few weeks ago and stated that Allstate is no longer going to insure RVs, campers or camper vans. I have until October to find new insurance. Anyone else get this call? Maybe it is just a Colorado thing.

I have a fiberglass travel trailer insured with them and have not yet received any notice on this topic.

Thanks for the heads up though.

That happened to me last Fall in New York State. After 15 years. I switched to Progressive, though I arranged it through USAA who handles the rest of our insurance. All to say, it's true Allstate is halting RV insurance.

This is going to be an increasingly prevalent situation and has been coming for some time. Insurance companies ae generally run as badly as the "government" and have many of the same attributes. I know because I worked for on and owned another. Their risk horizons change with the ebb and flow of the stock market because as non mutuals, they are beholden to shareholders and not policy holders.

The high risk states of FL, TX, CA and the pigeon hole of NY, NJ, CT, etc are going to feel it first but eventually they will get around to redefining their risks for the remainder...until they do it again in 4 to 6 years.

No easy answer and with the focus that Progressive has had on the RV/Boat markets, I fully expect them to reverse some of that in the next 2 years at least with respect to the high risk states.

Progressive here. Also through USAA. Insured for an agreed upon value with a reasonable rate.

Progressive (in Colorado) declined to insure our sportsmobile. We have home and auto with them, so that was a bit … disappointing.

I found an insurance agent in Fresno who got us insured for agreed-upon value with Safeco. It's not cheap (~$90 a month), but what can you do?

Here's his contact info:
Justin Gennock
justin@gennockinsurance.com
cell: 559-577-4704 (text him)

We got Good Sam roadside insurance after we needed a tow on a forest service road in Wyoming. Apparently (news to us) AAA won't cover towing on a dirt road.

Good Sam does RV insurance as well. Might be worth looking into. https://www.goodsamrvinsurance.com
