Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

I am purchasing a ladder from SMB West tomorrow, how hard is it to install at the bottom, I know the top is easy.

What's invloved?

Thank you

Luke

Re: Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

Just have to drill a couple of holes in the body seam. It's best if you run the plate on the bottom of the ladder up the inside of the body seam. Piece of cake.

It's best if you can fit the ladder plate outside the body seam.

Re: Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

Rear door ladder or side mount ladder? On my door mount I layed it flat on the ground and bounced on it to flatten it out a tad. This basically dropped the lower mounting point so I could drill thru the body seam instead of into the door.

Re: Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

Actually, I just went down to SMB West and looked, I agree with what Jage said and that is to have the plate on the outside of the seam

Thanks All, pictures of my new Aluminess tire carrier and ladder to come

Re: Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

I did mine to the inside of the seam. Aesthetically I agree it would look better on the outside but after I Line-X'ed the ladder and added bulk to plate it just fit better there. I think my original self install was the same but too long ago to remember why I choose that method.

Re: Aluminess Ladder (bottom mount)

It's fine in the back, that's where it's "supposed" to go as far as I know.

My reason for putting the plate in outside the seam is the load is against the body seam instead of on the bolts. If it didn't fit, due to body differences or slight differences in the ladder I would have put it in back.

Anyone who wants me to load test one that is back mounted just swing by the house...
