Re: Always have a spare key...

You could also clean a spot somewhere duct tape the key in place and paint over the tape

Oh yeah, I think my van doesn't have that. I wonder how hard it would be to add? I have one on my raptor and totally love it!
If your van has the remote fob for unlocking, you can add the remote keypad.

www.sportsmobileforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6899

It is simply another remote, but one that needs a code entered before it will unlock the van.

I have a spare set of keys hidden inside my van and can use the keypad to get into the van if I lose my keys. Turns out, I use the keypad frequently when the van is in my driveway.

Everyone should know though, that the keypad will NOT unlock your doors if the engine is running. That makes for a far worse day if you're in that situation. FWIW I loved the remote keypad that I added on my SMB.

Re: Always have a spare key...

After reading this I'm going out to see if my magnetic box is still there!

Years ago I accidentally locked my keys in my Isuzu Trooper while getting gas, and the truck was running (oops, and also dangerous). I went up to the high school kid behind the cashier's window and told him I locked my keys in my car and somebody was bringing me a spare. He looks at me, at the Trooper, and then says "Well, you can't leave it there while you wait, it's blocking the gas pump." Ummm... ok.

That's thong as in 'thin leather cord'; no relation to my wife's drawers.

Re: Always have a spare key...

A friend duct tapes a spare key on the back side of the license plate. I carry a spare in my wallet and the one I use on a carabiner clipped to my jeans.

Had them cut a couple of door keys... one hid and one in my wallet.

Why is it that the keypad wont unlock your doors when the car is running? I thought that it just acted as a remote since it isn't integrated into the van. Or will all remotes not work when the van is running?

Duh...

I completely forgot that I had a key (cut out of a plastic credit card material and made by AAA) for our van in my wallet. Still, it is more manly to use a big knife to solve the problem!

Okay!!! Now we have leather and leather cord!! this getting better! Beginning to wonder what the key actually unlocks I think I better look into locking my keys in my van while having a thong around my neck (of course with a key). Viejo, seems you have found some benefits to all of this!!
