Another tire pressure question
Went to a cat scale with the following figures:
Gross Weight (packed for camping and family of 4 and doggo in the van): 10860 lb
Front axle: 4320 lb
Rear axle: 6540 lb
Tires: Bfg ko2 285/70r17 121/118R E 10 ply (max load capacity 3,195 max inflation 80 psi)
Based on the chart Geoff posted on another thread I should be running at cold temps 40 psi front, 80 psi rear? (See attached)
The Quigley/smb installed stickers on the driver side door jam is 55/80 with 245/70r17 tires. (See attached)
I should be running 40/80 based on my weight and tire size or should I run the recommended psi 55/80 that is listed on the door jam?

I would certainly run the 80 in the rear. 40 up front is less than I would be comfortable running for highway. I would be in the 50 to 55 range upfront just to keep the sidewalls a bit stiffer.

Thanks for your input.
Sounds reasonable to me. The large disparity and low psi of the front tire on the tire table threw me off.

I sometimes run those minimum pressures shown in my table when I want a smoother ride, but normally I run more pressure for better fuel economy.

Also, I just noticed that the first three weight values for LT355/60R20 at the bottom are obviously incorrect - but they were also this way on the 2020 Toyo Load Inflation Table I sourced.

FWIW; Let me bring up the elephant in the room...Your rear axle weight is already over the combined rear tire max load. if it were me (I tend to lean towards caution) I'd be looking for a 10ply tire with a higher max load rating, especially since you have the entire family traveling with you.

Good catch. I'm open to suggestions which tire has that kind of rating.

I have not found a source that lists tires by Max Load, but you can take a look at post #6 on the attachment below and filter based on desired tread type, then size...from there you'll just have to click on each tire which interests you and look at it's max load rating.
