Anyone ever get Trouble Code P0506?

So at the SoCal Meet 'n Greet, we disconnected my battery and upon reconnecting it I got the check engine light. My new scanguage said Trouble Code P0506.

So has anyone ever had Trouble Code P0506?

According to one website, a P0506 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:

* A vacuum leak
* An air restriction in the intake air path or exhuast
* A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
* Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body
* Internal engine problem
* Failed PCM

Any suggestions for course of action, i.e. where to start?

If it helps, when my PCM failed, my Scanguage did not read any error code. In fact, from what I understand, the PCM is what sends the codes to the Scanguage so a dead one can't really tell you that it is dead.

I'd lean towards the dirty throttle body. Especially since you have a K&N air filter and they are notorious for passing too much dirt.

It's strange that the code just poped up after you pulled the battery power off. Maybe a glitch? What happens when you clear the code and pull the battery off again? It comes back?

From our fleet mechanics:
Clear the code and see if it comes back. (unhook battery for 10+ min and rehook up).

Check Air filter (Use stock filter only)
Check idle control valve, and it's harness connections.
These were just a few things to start with.

Code was probably caused by 100 rpm below during normal idle operation.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

• 1. I do have the K&N-and in fact, Mike was telling me that day that I should go back to stock which I will.

• 2. I cleared the Trouble Code using the Scanguage and the Check Engine Light came back on about 50 miles later. Is it better to disconnect the battery to clear the code?

• 3. From my search, cleaning the Throttle Body is the first step. I will have to try that once I learn what the Throttle Body is!

• 4. I will also check idle control valve.

Anyone have a diagram, shop manual drawing, or a link to what exactly these items are? I don't want to screw anything up.

I have a 2005 with the V10.

You might want to make sure there isn't a vacuum leak. I've seen issues with some of the connections at the drivers pillar and at the dash (under the cover on top of the dashboard). While a vacuum gauge could confirm if there is a problem, you'd see symptoms of a vacuum leak if you notice air flow not coming out of whichever registers you have the climate control set at. If there is little or no vacuum, the air flow defaults to defrost position, sometimes this happens on long up hill grades too.

I've only seen a couple vacuum pumps on the diesel's go bad, but the symptoms are similar.
