broken arm rest, can it be repaired?

I recently bought a 2000 van that the front pass seat arm rest was laying on the floor. It slides in but doesnt stay in, and I dont think the stops will stop it from going up and down to far.

The post is round with a small hole facing forward. I cannot tell how this was supposed to be secured into the seat with no snap ring groove. I dont want to cut or un-upholster the seat if I dont have to. Or looking for good detailed advice to remove the fabric without damaging it and then put it back.

Knowing a little more about your van might help. Ford? Chevy? Dodge? Other?

A visit to a local upholstery shop should be able to answer you question in any case.

I think with no obvious missing or broken component, you're going to have to tear into the seat. It could have been a pin, welded, a nut, worn... The seats might not be original anyway, so van make might not help.

Re: broken arm rest, can it be repaired?

my driver side arm came off.... its a ford 2001, if it has factory seats unclip the seat cover on the upright its on the bottom slide the cover up a bit my arm had a velcro opening on it, undo that there is a torx head bolt inside the arm, it screws into a nut that is welded onto the seat frame. I tossed the nut that broke free and installed a nylock nut in its place..... put everything back together.
