Re: Canadian Sportsmobile Owners

I bought the van through Quadvan, had them convert it then drove it to the border, imported it and did both the provincial (BC) and federal inspection with no issues. There is another guy in North Vancouver who did the same thing with no problems. My van now has 90,000 miles, most of them in Mexico, with no problems.

Not holding US law, recognizing a valid US conviction. Many Americans do not realize this and it sure could ruin an otherwise well Planned vacation.

Not that I have to worry, but that's unreal. How did draft dodgers get away with entering the country?

Well, I'd guess for one that was like 100 years ago.

Also, the kid thing is interesting- we take our niece everywhere and have letters allowing us to make medical decisions etc, however the border people would probably flip since the names don't match and she has only one legal parent so we couldn't produce any documentation from two anyway...

Something to consider if we ever want to get up that way, of course any people "stealing" their own kids are just going to forge the letter anyway which would almost be easier anyway. Sheesh.

On topic, has anybody successfully bought new, driven to SMB and taken a completed van back across? I would think this is so much in violation of the letter and spirit that you could get in a lot more trouble (read: "So Sorry, have to sell the van, eh buddy.").
