Van life is pretty popular in BC just because of the weather and due to the lack of affordable housing. Most people who do this long term have "day spot" and a "night spot" that are different. One is just for sleeping, the other is for when you aren't.

In my experience...

I have dealt with a few "homeless" people who like to live in their cars, vans, whatever and after finding them affordable housing they abandon it soon after moving in. Many homeless have psychological issues and do not want to live in a house or under rules or pay taxes or pay for water whatever. Granted, there are homeless folks who are truly homeless due to losing their job etc. Then there are "homeless" folks that just like living that life because they like the freedom and then there are homeless people who have issues that are just trying to survive. Most of these people do not want a house or permanent dwelling. We will always have a "homeless" issue because people want to be contrary and live free.

Good point. Sounds more like "drifters" than "homeless". They are more punk rock than crack rock. Lol

Yeah my heart goes out to people who are a step away from homeless or not with a serious medical condition. We should feel lucky we have friends and family that support us. Not everyone has that.

Just returned from a round trip to Florida (8,000 miles) In my 2003 E350/7.3 Sportsmobile.
I did find Walmart parking restrictions in Phoenix and Scottsdale AZ also Walmart's south of Miami, Fl. In both areas these restrictions were local ordinances.
In the Florida Keys RV camping was very difficult as a result of snowbirds, spring break and bike week. I had to retreat from the Keys (my 1st day) to Miami for a Walmart which allowed overnight parking. I did note that if the Walmart had private security on patrol that was a sure sign that they did not allow overnight parking.
I did rely on Casino's which usually have RV areas.
As a Los Angeles area resident I'm very aware of homeless in older RV's. It's a shame that Los Angeles politicians can not seems to figure out a solution......there are large vacant areas in the county that could give these less fortunate a place to reside and get the help they so badly need.
