Close to New Purchase - 4x4 EB 50
Hi There. Big fan of the forum and these vehicles. Seriously considering the purchase of a new '10 6.0 L Diesel 4x4 SMB EB-50. All set to go, but was hoping to hook up with someone in SoCal (I'm in Leucadia, north county San Diego) who has a '08 or newer with a similar set up as above.
I visited the SMB crew at Pomona last year and got to see Alan's rig up close. I am hoping to drive one before I pull the trigger. As much as I want to visit the factory, it's going to be hard for me to head up to Fresno and back just for a test drive; would rather go up there to take delivery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm more than happy to come to you. Thanks in advance.
-Blair

Your spending close to 100k and dont want to test drive cuz its in Fresno?
I used to live in Leucadia, understand the mindset
but go have an early breakfast at Captain Kenos and go drive your new rig

Totally agree Bill, unfortunately the rig is still on the rack. Just looking for something in the mean time. Only a few more weeks...thanks for the encouragement.

An SMB 4x4 setup drives like a big truck IMHO.
What specifically are you trying to figure out?

Re: Close to New Purchase - 4x4 EB 50
Taking delivery mid/end of the month. Started the process only a month or so ago (was already on the production line). I just wanted to get a feel for the ride as I've read a lot about the suspension and how it can/will be bumpy. I currently drive a suburban and am used to bumping along, however I anticipate it will be a little more with the SMB.

I think you'll be surprised on how well or similar they drive to a suburban. Heavier, so stopping will be a little different and some slight sway in turning plus a little more resistance in windy conditions. Everybody that has rode with me have made the statement that as big as it looks they are surprised that it drives more like a large pickup. I used to drive a truck/camper combo...my van handles way better.

Re: Close to New Purchase - 4x4 EB 50
So did you order one and you haven't test drove it yet? I'm sure you'll love it but I would have test drove one before ordering one. Is there a way to return it if you don't like it or want another option? Have you ever used angieslist.com to look at reviews of auto sales places?

In production vans can be changed if the option has not been done yet, or the owner will have to pay to change it if SMB deems so. I had to put a deposit down and if I backed out I would have lost the deposit. BTW I never drove one before I purchased my SMB 4x4. Figured it would drive like a 2WD van and was surprised it drove better than a stock van. I guess the conversion helped in cornering.
