You'd think with the pressure that gov't mandated CAFE numbers put on manufacturers that if a simple intake modification would result in a meaningful increase in fuel economy that the manufacturers would be all over it.

After all, the engineers who design and test these things every day for many many years in the case of the econoline likely know a bit about these engines, like the relationships between volumetric efficiency and thermal efficiency, BMEP, etc etc.
