Cooper STT Pro Tires

Hi all -

Anyone here running Cooper STT Pro tires? If so, would like your feedback on long term wear and performance (and noise). Ideally, would love to hear from someone that has these Cooper tires and direct experience compared to Toyo M/T tires.

I have run Toyo M/T's for a long time. The are great off-road, but wear terribly and chunk a lot when 4-wheeling.

In one blog I'm following, the individual switched from the Cooper STT Pro's to Toyo M/T tires and was very disappointed (due to the reasons I am) and is switching back to Cooper. His vehicle is likely lighter than mine by about 3K-4K lbs though.

Don't want to make this a general tire discussion, just on the subject line.

Thanks!

No one I guess. Well, I think I'm going to try them for my upcoming trip to South America and try to remember to follow up with a long term review. My hope is to complete the trip on the same new set of tires I start with. We'll see ...

I've got firsthand experience with both tires, but on drastically different vehicles. Besides the Toyos being HEAVY, I really couldn't complain much. They wore even, lasted reasonably (over 40k miles) and did what I needed them to in the dirt. I did notice a slight right hand radial pull, but it didn't really bother me. This was on a 1 ton Ram with 37"s.

A friend of mine recently bought the STT Pros in 37x12.5x17 (also load range E) and put them on his Jeep Cherokee. The aren't any louder (nor quieter) going down the highway and they roll smooth, but they took a lot of weight to balance (almost 12oz on one.) The Coopers have a pretty good edge in offroad performance, having both larger shoulder lug voids for soft terrain, and more/smaller tread blocks for hard terrain. The STT Pros are the only tire outside of a Super Swamper Bogger that I've seen with scooped faces on the tread blocks, but they're no louder for it. I can't speak to their long term durability.

Between the 2, I'd probably make the switch to the Coopers myself (but my current Hankook MT's on my van are working well.)

Thanks for the input. I also developed a slight right hand pull that started right when I switched to Toyo MT's. I'm hoping it disappears with the Cooper's but have honestly gotten used to it after all these years.

No experience with the Coopers but have you considered the Toyo R/T?

I'm currently running A/T2's and pretty happy with them but the R/Ts may be my next tire.

I've only run the S/T and the S/T Maxx and I'm sold on the Coopers. I currently have the Maxx's on my van with about 35k miles and they are still going strong. I'll be putting another set of the Maxx's on again when it's time.

Thanks. I reached out to him and he seems to focus on how loud they are. Said his buddy with Nitto Ridge Grapplers is happy with those. Funny that the Nitto's is where I started focussing on and now may end up back there. As much as off-road performance is important to me, I'm going to have a lot of road miles next year.

RandallDee - Thanks for your input too!

sorry for the late reply but i can provide a bit of input since i have 37" Cooper STT Pro's on my 97 landcruiser.

Offroad
  • great traction on wet/dry rocks, packed dirt, loose dirt, snow, and mud
  • sheds mud and snow very well
  • great puncture resistence so far

On-road
  • Loud
  • heavy
  • not great for traction on packed snow/ice

i remedied the sub-par performance of the tires in packed snow/ice by having my tire siped in the middle leaving about 1.5"-2" unsiped on the edge to prevent chunking. they perform well in the winter but then again so does the AWD/4WD system on my landcruiser. i would say if you spend 75% or more time on serious trails they are a great tire but if your roadtripping then doing some offroading they might be a bit load and for long trips. If it were me id stick with an aggressive winter rated all-terrain tire and i currently have the KO2's on my van wxh work great but again are loud. my next tire will be the Falken Wildpeaks AT3W, which is what i run on my wifes 4-Runner. They have done great on my 15 4-Runner offroad and onroad in any weather, albeit i dont hit the trails as hard in my wifes 4-Runner as i do my Landcruiser..

Well that makes sense since you started with Toyo and they make Nitto!
