Crashed Quiqley final ride!

She's seen better day that's for sure but we figured there was enough parts worth salvaging to make the trip from BC to Portland to pick her up. It was a BC van so no imports fees and in case you're curious, both occupants didn't get any injuries when they rolled the van...

I went with a good friend of mine who's building a camper bus. He'll be transplanting the Quiqley to his bus and likely sell the rest. She's got a very low mileage 6.0 that's already been bulletproofed but I'd doubt he'll keep the engine. Any idea if we can use the tranny from this 2006 to a 1997 with the 7.3?

The ride went well and my Ambo barely put a sweat pulling her back home. The tow tune on my DP Tuner sure helped, EGT never went above 1100 even when climbing at 60mph (trailer & van were probably close to 12,000lbs).

Made it home slow but safely, now the tearing apart will start.

Cheers
David

2006? Isn't that a 2008+ front clip?

In any case, I've been wanting to ask MG your transmission question. Can he make a 5R110 work with a 7.3?

Mechanics have told me it can't be done. Probably the same guys who told him a Cummins conversion couldn't be done...

Bascially, you need an external controller to make the 5R100 work. Those are available, but all the programming has ben done for the Cummins swaps. The Ford 7.3L diesel will need all ne programming done (and some of the shifts can seize the transmission if the programming is wrong). But might be worth a call to PCS to see if they've done any 7.3's yet.

12k weight on the trailer/van combo is far too high. Van is ~7000 and the trailer is likely less than 3k if I had to guess. Six lug trailer axles are rated to 5200# each typically. In any case, setup looks great and that sure looks like a good deal!

Wow, probably lots of good parts on that van, good score. Did it come from a junkyard?.

So how did you get the van on there ? Built in trailer winch?

I just want to see more photos of the Ambo. That thing looks awesome. Can you stand up straight inside?

Cheers Rallypanam for digging out my build thread. I'll need to update it though!
As for standing inside if you're shorter than 5'7" than it works

And thanks again for the info on the tranny swap. Wish it'd be easier but aside from swapping engine and tranny all together sounds like it won't be easy. And yes, it's a 2008, not 2006. As for the towing weight I'm not sure but agreed, probably 10,000 to 11,000 lbs. Regardless the 7.3 didn't really feel it
