to anybody who has Danhard AC-not starcool.

first off would you get it again knowing what you know now.

would you get it again IF you did not live relativley close to a sportmobile facility-say within 100 miles.

thanks
I'm not the original owner, so I didn't really have a choice. It was in the van already.

If I was ordering new, no, I would not get it. It is
  • Noisy
Only works when plugged into shore power (or a gennie)
Has been a pain in my rear to get working
Reduces ground clearance (may just be my case)
Have yet to actually use it when on a trip because it was either broken or had no access to shore power
Danhard doesn't appear to want anything to do with them any more

My $0.02 would be to either forget A/C entirely, get a different system, or better yet, get an Endless Breeze fan and camp at cooler destinations based on the time of year.

Reopening this thread:

I have had a Danhard and before that a Starcool since 2006. It stopped being being able to function with a Honda 200 generator about 3 years ago so I made do with shore power (15 or 30 amps) or the 260 am vehicle alternator.

I want to restore a single Honda capability so am going to pull it and have a domestic tech that I trust do some work on it approximately as follows:
Install an Easy Start module
Recharge it if necessary
Clean the Condenser and Evaporator, and
Possibly replace the compressor with a newer version made by Panasonci vs the Tenneco original.

Before I start down this road, and I believe I am the first to attempt it, inquiring if anyone else out there has overhauled/serviced their Danhard a/c?
