Even the cops (at least around here) will tell you and the courts, they shoot to kill. To do otherwise is giving someone a great chance to kill you. As bad as the courts can be, I'll take my chances with the court, rather than with the local emergency room or coroner.

Shoot-to-disarm?? That's only in the movies. In real life that would be stupid. I wasn't saying I would do anything other than shoot center-of-mass to stop a threat to myself or my loved ones. Of course shooting COM will most likely kill the target, but I can live w/ that if they were trying to kill me instead. What's the saying? "It's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6."
My point was only about what to SAY (or not to say) when talking to the cops or in the courtroom. Of course cops are going to shoot to kill - they have more "authority" to do so (and say it) than us regular civilians. And for self-defense, we're taught to aim for COM (center-of-mass) so as to stop the threat as quickly as possible. It's not to kill someone, just to stop someone. Big difference in the justice system.
