Difference between the E-150 and E-250 Sportsmobile

I am currently looking at a E-150 and believe it's a decent buy. However I want to make sure it will do what I need. Daily driver, tow 7k or better as I have been there before with my current daily driver. Thoughts?

Re: Difference between the E-150 and E-250 Sportsmobile

Need more details. What year E150? Engine size? Newer E150s (2008+) are the same as older E250s, more or less, as they upped the weight rating, brakes, and other parts.

For a pre-2008, I'd seriously consider at least an E250 if you want to tow anything. Even without towing, the weight of a camper build-out can quickly overwhelm an E150, and that's before you even start loading it up for a trip.

Thanks, I called the owner he says V8 but doesn't know displacement size. I guess I could ask him to look at the label under the hood....

1992 is the year.

If anyone knows how to decode the vin this is it,
VIN: 1FDEE`4H2NHB43792

As he doesn't know the engine size maybe he doesn't know it's an E-250??

Here's the listing,

There's an error with the VIN you posted.

BTW, Ford VIN decoder here:

Most earlier E and F series had dual tailpipes if it has a 460 and a single tailpipe if it has a 5.8.

Just noticed your WTB ad. In that ad you say you are looking for a 2000 or newer. Why are you considering this one?

Strickly price. Ideally 2000 or newer as the wife likes the dove gray not the wood colored cabinets and newer colors. Good catch by the way. You know - happy wife,......twist my arm though, newer less miles SMB. I am not complaining!!

Re: Difference between the E-150 and E-250 Sportsmobile

..guess and patch up the VIN and it decodes nicely. Its a 5.8 (351), 1992 E150.

A quick view of the picts and it looks like its built out already .. so its near or close to its weight capacity for a E150 of that vintage. (If I remember correctly that PH top weighs about 350lbs.)

Hope this helps™,

Re: Difference between the E-150 and E-250 Sportsmobile

Yes it certainly does help! That's probably why its still available for sale. For me it's not going to work. As I find myself towing here and there from something light to say 6-7k. Most of the time it's 4-5k. So I don't think an E-150 is going to work. One of the reasons why he isn't selling to is he doesn't respond to emails.
