I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I meant. Unless SMB has changed their policies, they do nothing to protect or represent the buyer. I would go so far as to say SMB doesn't even advise the buyer, because they only pass on unverified information, in my experience anyway.

I don't have a beef with SMB, but I was under the mistaken impression (at the time) that their involvement ensured some level of assurance, that my purchase would go as smoothly as yours did. Their involvement did no such thing, and doesn't now, again unless they've changed something. They certainly acted as if they knew and disclosed everything about the SMB I was intending to purchase.

The point is, nobody told me different- so I was shocked and rather inconvenienced upon showing up to a vehicle not as described with mileage not as indicated. SMB told me directly the vehicle was pristine and it wasn't. I had their verbal assurance about the quality and state of the vehicle, and those things were misrepresented. I don't remember specifically if the said the engine was checked, but I certainly had the impression the van had been inspected by a knowledgeable mechanic. That's the main thing I want people to understand about their used department- they don't know, but they act like they checked over the vehicle themselves.

And while "pristine" is a debatable condition, the 1500 extra miles was not. On the spot I called SMB to get advice, thinking... I don't know what, that they would acknowledge the discrepancy? Their response was basically "1500 miles doesn't matter", which make sense in retrospect since it's not like they actually had the van inspected at x mileage.

It only got worse when I drove away and the CEL came on. To my knowledge there was no check or service required, I certainly wasn't made aware of any. That's my fault of course, but I did assume that SMB wouldn't represent a vehicle with known engine problems. Several other things were evident in retrospect as well, such as SMB finally admitting they'd warrantied the leaky top.

Obviously SMB isn't going to advertise any shortcomings of their used sales service, but that leaves the lingering impression that as a buyer you're somehow better off going through them, which certainly wasn't my experience.

Re: Discussion split from: For Sale: 2012 Sportsmobile 4x4

Hmmm, maybe they got the message? In order to place the add they required the seller in my case to get it checked out and I have the receipt from the Ford Dealership to prove it. I was not able to get in touch with the buyer until I had made a serious offer. I was able, however, to get a copy of the build sheet and additional pictures.

Maybe I just got lucky with my experience throught the SMB classifieds. But really, unless they actually have the vehicle in their possession I'm not sure what more they can do? It's basically just a more expensive way of advertising for the seller than going the craigslist route.

If they deliberately misled you then I can see why you'd be tweaked.

I think some Sportsmobile locations like Texas have pre-owned vehicles right at their factory. Very convenient for viewing several at a time. It would be nice if Fresno did that.

SMB west requires a detailed sheet to fill out from the mechanic at Ford or wherever it gets checked out at. A basic mechanical inspection is required by them to list it. I thought about listing mine with them and got all the necessary paperwork to do it but decided not to at the end. This was recently.

Also I had the choice to drive it to SMB west and they would keep it onsite or I could keep it at my place. There is an option for them to sell the van at SMB West.

I bought my rig through SMBW. It was checked out, but had a clogged oil cooler, and neither Espar worked.

C'est la Vie.

Just got word from Fresno that if you have one for sale you can't keep it there. Would be nice to see several used ones at one place, though.

Probably cause Freedom Ford did the engine work for SMB. Thankfully they're gone. Man did they mess up my rig!
