Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

I have certainly done most on this list. but, here is a new one that I added ro my mental checklist. Check for poop bags. In a lot of Oregon State Parks they have moved the garbage locations to one central location. This means you could have a pretty good walk depending on where your campsite is located. So after walking the dog in the morning and nicely picking up the poop in a bag, when I returned to camp I set the bag on top of the front tire. I didn't want to put in the garbage can in the van. Needless to say on departure, I forgot to move the poop bag to the garbage. As I pulled out I heard this loud pop. I got out of the van with a very worried and proceeded to walk around checking the van until I found the exploded poop bag. After A quick hose down, I proceeded on my way. I would have chalked it up to a one time event, but I almost did it again on another trip.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

A few things we do to try and minimize "doofas" errors:

Leave the door to the propane tank open when turning on the propane.

Leave the door open on the programmable thermostat when turning on the heater.

Make sure the penthouse latches are completely vertical (i.e., not in a position to catch on the way up) before raising the penthouse.

Immediately latch the penthouse (front and back) as soon as it is down.

Turn off the water heater as soon as you hear it quit heating.

Never turn off the radio...if the radio switch is accidentally turned on, you wouldn't know it.

Regarding the first suggestion, someone actually closed and latched the door to the propane tank once while we were camping! I discovered it when I went around to turn off the propane and close the door. Maybe someone thought that the open door would let the propane escape!

I've caught my tire in the side view mirror, being open that is. I'm not sure if it was a fluke or I didn't close it. No idea how long I'd been driving that way- nobody currently on the road with my tried to warn me.

Which reminds me, when my brother was hooked into my 110 here in Colorado and we took his SMB to the reservoir, we got flagged down on the way. Why? Well the 3/4 that was left of his electric cord was dragging beside the Sprinter.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

This thread musta followed me last week. I did the Blackwood Canyon/Barker Pass trail and the McKinney Creek/Rubicon trail in Tahoe with only one hub locked Hope I didn't jack up the rear end cause Blackwood's one steep run... I swear I locked both of them

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

I read the opening post on this thread the day it showed up. I knew, then, that I would have a doofas along the same lines.

On my last day in Tampa, trying to hurry up, I drove out of my site for about 100 yards to the main road. Noticing a dumpster at the corner before entering the main road, I thought it wise to throw away my accumulated trash rather than drive 2 days toward home with it. So, I got out and walked the trash to the dumpster. When I turned around and started back toward the van, idling at the stop sign, I realized that my top was still up... doofas prophecy fulfilled!

OOOHHH, that one is awesome! did you get a pic? Kind of like the old picture floating around of the car driving along with the gas pump and hose sticking out of the filler.

He should just be happy it wasn't like Chevy Chase in Vacation, where's there's nothing left but a leash tied to the rear bumper.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

Driving back from Southern Utah yesterday, people kept waving at me in a funny way on I-15.

I finally figured out the Aluminess box on the back was wide open!

I cannot believe it but nothing fell out!

What kind of Doofas would zoom off down the interstate at 65 mph with the storage box wide open? ME!
