Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?
Mine works while the engine is running , I checked with the Service Manager prior to purchasing from FORD ! Oddly enough I can't recollect ever locking myself out of any other vehicle other than this
SportsMobile and I have done this now four times once on a nice day ,once in a South Dakota blizzard
A twice in the driveway at home ! So feel proud that you are brighter than I !

Mine always tries to lock me out when I get out with the engine running. I wear a spare on a cord around my neck whenever we travel; don't always have pockets.

I keep spare in my fridge compartment. Have not had to use it yet.

The lock/unlock switch on the door is placed so you can easily lock the doors if you used the armrest for support as you exit the van. My brother did this to me once. I promptly swapped the right and left door lock switches to prevent this from recurring. Some minor modification was needed, but I forget what it was.

Locked my keys in the SMB with the engine running. Luckily I wasn't in the booneys and AAA was able to get to me within 30 minutes. Scary how easy it is to break into a Ford van. Now I know why Zeta has external locks on his doors...

Ron, if I didn't tow anything I'd buy a hitch safe.

Since I'll be towing quite often I went with one of these. The magnets are very strong. If one of these gets knocked off the frame you'll have other things to worry about. You could even wrap a couple of twenties in it for those times when your wife drains your wallet (or to tip the mechanic unknowingly).

That's what I use. Ive had one on every vehicle I've owned for many years. I've never lost one.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?
Here's a trick I don't use but know someone how does and it's rescued him. One of the bolts that hold on the front plate also holds a key behind the plate. The bolt head is large enough so any coin will work as a screwdriver for loosening the bolt. Unscrew the bolt and the key drops right out.
I know of one person that's wired the unlock door switch to a hidden switch under the van.
I'm a spare key in the wallet person, which was saved me more than once, but that isn't the best strategy if you're camping.
