Doofas time. Any body else do this?

I went to my local hardware store to buy a foam pipe insulation noodle to slip over the very hard edge above my side door (penthouse model) after countless head bangings and lots of curses. Good old American steel can hurt even wrapped in upholstery.I was also looking for a more elegant solution to my sink to grey water jug drain. I drove out of the drive way and up the street when I heard a flapping noise. I pulled over right away and looked up to find that I had totally spaced out and left the penthouse up. After containing my laughter and shame , I put the top down and drove home. Am I the only one to ever do this ?

Not fully up ... but I have driven off with it un-latched.

We've talked about having a check-list (you wouldn't believe how many things have fallen off the cabinets on our first left hand turn) but have never formalized it.

Wellll, dad drove off one time in a big Class A with his awning out. Bet you can guess how that ended! I think they made the movie 'RV' in his honor.

You got lucky, it could always be worse!

I aways like the first left turn and finding out the fridge did not get its pin put back in place.

There is a checklist, I believe under the visor and another in one of the cabinets (mine is porta-potty cabinet door).

Mine is always to look at counters for unsecured things... several dings in the sink you wouldn't know came from a mug playing rodeo in there unless I told you.

My second rule is if there is a noise, bang, tinking sound, stop and figure out what it was and where it came from before continuing. That reminds me, another shelf screw fell out on the last trip and I haven't put it back yet.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

I think we have all done things like that.

The worst was having the refrig door open and spill its contents. It is even worse when I am by myself (no one else to blame) and something is rolling around back there - I can't see what it is. When my wife is along, she can see what and where is happening - usually she gets up and takes care of it without stopping.

It is most likely to happen when you are in a hurry and can't afford the time to stop and take care of it. Hmmmmmmmm.........sounds like something my mother used to get on me about.....

I've never driven off with the penthouse top up. Of course, the only reason I can say that is Gnarvan doesn't have a penthouse top to leave up.

Re: Doofas time. Any body else do this?

Don't feel so bad we all do some questionable things; SMB told me of a owner who left theirs up then proceeded to park it in the garage. Needless to say, it didn't fit. That musta been a sick feeling.

Things I check before driving off (usually leaving camp) are:
The top is secure (latched).
The barn doors are fully closed.
The swing gate is pinned closed especially after washing the vehicle. That has been my big doofas
thing, seeing the tail gate a swingin while driving around a corner.
I usually look at the hubs befoue a long trip.

At home I check when leaving:
The shore power is disconnected.
The Propane door is latched.
The circulating pump is off if the block warmer was used.
The inverter/charger is off which is really no big deal.

I also have a pre-trip list that covers stuff like the water tank being filled, equipment loaded, and things like food and meds I need.
