Door Hinge Bolt Needed

Do any of you know what the specs are on the door hinge bolt that Aluminess provides with their spare tire carrier? Or where I could get them other than through Aluminess?

It's the stainless bolt that replaces the door hinge pin you have to knock out when mounting the carrier. I contacted Aluminess and was told the bolt is one they have customized to fit. Is that really the case?

I am having a similar carrier made for a storage box and need two more of the bolts...

Measure it and head to Lowe's for a stainless bolt that fits. I don't have the exact one close to me now but it couldn't be rocket science. You may need to cut some threads off and deburr it. Spin a nut onto it BEFORE cutting threads and then removing the nut will clean and realign the threads, then drill a hole for a cotter pin or use a fresh nylock nut and some Loctite. Done.

Be sure to use antisize if you use stainless steel.

I called aluminess when I needed one a few years back. They shipped it out that day free of charge.
I was impressed to say the least.

I wish it was that easy.....my hinge rivet is .340"........that's a bit less than 9mm....good luck.

There is not an inch or metric that's even close.....

I've come up with two solutions......

First one was to machine a stainless 18-8 3/8" (.375") shoulder screw down to .340"......that's what I've got now and it works fine, except my lathe is a POS harbor freight toy and I'm anal....the lathe work sort of sucks...

And I've also taken the stock removed rivet and drilled and tapped a #10-32 threaded blind hole in the bottom......stick the original rivet back in with the strap and screw a nice shiny stainless screw in the bottom.....using blue locktite.

If you go the shoulder screw way you may want to order one long enough to capture the strap that you will be adding as well.

Man you are anal. Based on your measurements 3/8" is within 1/32" of being perfect. Close enough!

Except that won't fit...no matter how hard you pound on it....... 5/16" will..... .3125" it's a bit loose, that's presumably why Aluminess makes a custom.
