Dynamat + Reflectix + 3M Thinsulate ? sound and thermal insulation

Dynamat then Reflectix then 3M Thinsulate ?

Hi all

When we eventually have a company do the interior build on our (likely 2019 Sprinter 170 EXT 4 x 4)

I was thinking of specifying Dynamat then Reflectix then 3M Thinsulate on the inside of the layers of products.



for sound dampening, then thermal insulation.

From the gas pedals to the very back on the floor.
From the visors to back - so the whole roof.
From the B pillars very back on the side walls.

What do people think of this as a solution to sound deadening and thermal insulation?

I’d like to have as much sound and thermal insulation as possible. (but not be crazy thick)

Just be aware that reflectex needs airspace to be effective. It does almost nothing otherwise.

thanks.... so how does this figure into my idea of my 3 products?

also... being 2 layers of foil on Reflectix - wouldnt the foil do something? even without an airspace? due to physics?

My plans are Noico sound damping material on the inside of the exterior wall. Next a layer of Thinsulate or ridged insulation, depending on the wall area. I will spray adhesive the Reflextic to the inner plywood walls and attach that to some framing. I think that will give somewhat of a air space in many areas if the walls.

He is VERY knowledgeable and would be able to answer your questions and provide advice. He is very active on the Sprinted and Transit forums and knows his stuff.

Air is an excellent temperature insulator you can get, IF you can keep it from moving. As soon as there is a solid structure/connection between two surfaces, thermal bridging enters into the equation and effectiveness goes down.

For sound, think water. Any hole will allow sound to travel. Mass is the typical barrier to cut down on transmission of sound waves. Adhering a dense material to the inside of the outer skin will provide dampening, which is probably the most improvement we can get in these rigs. But as with air insulation, it is best to minimize any solid connections which then become conduits for sound transmission. Screws, wood, metal. Sound rooms typically have decoupled walls, they do not share opposing faces of the same studs.

Any other ways to really deaden sounds from the walls?

Recently test drove a bare interior 2018 Transit. Lots of noise from the cargo area!!
