Exterior Utilities Door

The hinge on the exterior utilities door (Propane, water and electric connections) broke. I contacted SBM in Austin and Field Van Fresno to see if I could buy a replacement. Field Van said they can't get a replacement and SBM has not come back with an answer. Any suggestions?

Interesting that Field Van can't assist with a replacement. If you can't get in touch with SMB South try SMB North (260) 356-5435 closes today at noon. Could also try replacing the hinges that broke? McMaster-Carr has a huge selection. Not sure how the originals were attached on your door, but if welded - any welding shop should be able to attach owner supplied replacement(s). Of course then you'll need to repaint...

Do you have the plastic one or the metal one? Both used to be available from the SMB store. The metal one would be easy to fab, the plastic type nearly impossible. This is one of a very few parts I can think of on an SMB that is extremely hard to replace/replicate. I would keep an eye out for wrecked/salvage SMB's.

Deep in my pics somewhere you can see where I had the old type and replaced with the newer, bigger plastic type that the SMB store sold (and that came on newer vans).

You may find something that comes close if you search “boat hatch plate” or “boat deck hatch” - these come in many different sizes. Just a suggestion.
Also, curious if this is something someone can make with a 3-D printer if they had an old one to use as a template??? I’d order one just as an extra since it seems they are no longer available.

I wanted new latches for our plastic propane door. Field Van didn't have them but gave me the part number to order from McMaster.

Here's what I bought. Haven't installed yet since cleaning and lubricating the okd ones fixed it.
