Re: Extra gas Tank?

Pre-'92: JC Whitney
'92+ non-ext: Mobility up-fitter with TransferFlow tanks or SMB or QuadVan
'92+ extended vans can use 35 or 55 gallon cutaway tanks.

Re: Extra gas Tank?

Is there any kind of aftermarket fuel cell that would work?

Re: Extra gas Tank?

A fuel cell should work on non-evaperative emissions vans. I don't think they'd work on vans with the Evap system.

One catch though, the larger ones that look like they'd fit well in the back... it seems like they are all made for circle track racing, so the pickup is on one side. Could make for some unexpected stalling when turning the wrong way.

Why is that?
All the ones I have seen, T into the normal filler then pump from the aux tank into the main tank with a pump that will only work when the main tank level is reading below 1/2 (or some low tank reading).

I'm thinking about one of these fuel cells:

I don't think they have an opening large enough for the largish in-tank fuel pumps required on the evaperative emissions vans. Could be wrong though.

It's sounds like you are talking about a Transfer setup. That may work. Although I was told that when using a transfer setup on the vans (at least the newer vans), the fuel gauge won't go back up to the new level until unless you restart.

Re: Extra gas Tank?

If you could use the fuel cell to carry fuel and have it attached to the main tank, then activate a fuel pump just to fill the van tank, I would think that would work. You would extend your range but unless you're in some weird enduro race- shutting down and transferring to a full tank shouldn't be that much of a problem if it's your only setup option.

I certainly wouldn't mention the aux tank to the emissions people, although each state seems to do that differently.

Re: Extra gas Tank?

I like the storage tank Idea and I really dont think Wyoming cares about much. I dont think it would be that much more work really if any to just add another gauge for that tank and just add a T switch at the line junction to change tanks. Im just thinking out loud please any input or advice is welcome im a sponge. As soon as I finish my bumpers I will be getting on this.

Thanks guys

Ron
