Fiamma Awning crank- Where do you store it?

Where does the rafter connect? Don't think I have one. Or maybe I do.

I store the crank across ways under the carpet right behind both front seats.

Yup, they came with the awning. If you can't find yours, maybe they can be had from Fiamma.

The rafter connects in the middle of the awning...

If you have the awning legs attached to the van, you need to have the rafter in use. Otherwise, a gust of wind can try to lift the awning, and because the legs are on the van the awning will simply collapse and legs will go up and can pull the brackets off the rain gutter. Since the SMB front bracket is bolted to the body the awning will fall down and block all but the driver's door. That all happens because the awning is spring loaded and goes out when you unroll the awning.

A gust of wind like that can ruin your whole day.

Unfortunately, I speak from experience.

The rafter can stop the awning from collapsing and prevent this.

I have the low profile Contempo top. The crank stores above the shelf by the side doors. The rafter stores above the overhead cabinet doors.

I leave my handle connected to the awning.

60-70mph I get some minor denting on the body, scratches on the right side of the van, and alittle rattle noise....

People on the highway are always pointing at me?



(just kidding) I store mine on the floor behind front seats across floor.

I do like the mounting idea very much!

Under a shelf I used two screws that stick out about an inch. The center rafter slides over the screws just like it does on the awning pins. I pull it tight and tighten the thumbscrew so it's solid. A couple of Velcro straps secure the crank to the rafter befor I put it in place. Basically it's just two screws sticking out and the rafter hooks right on.
