Think there are several groups with different camping styles posting on this. For our travels and family camping we have used a PP for 40+ years and would not travel w/o one. Can't imagine using a toilet seat mounted to the front bumper at a KOA, state park or state or national forest campground. That would be for solo wilderness camping.

Much less messy then changing diapers or fixing a plugged home p-trap or cleaning out a drain. Just got back from a trip. Only mistake was forgetting to empty the PP in outhouse pit toilet. Do have to dump slower and more careful in home toilet. But with the chemicals in the toilet that control odor and break up solids no real issues. Have never had a "plugged" PP that required a stick to clean it out. Using the top tank water for flushing and rinsing the bowl has always put plenty of liquid in the bottom tank for easy emptying. Do not find it "scary" in any way. It is just a device to handle one of our daily human needs.

Happy travels to all and keep eating those prunes.

Well, they're not necessarily single use. Fun for the whole family. At least for a day.

When I can do my business outside of the van, I do. But when there are no other reasonable options, I use a Reliance Hassock, always with a WAG bag. Instant cleanup; no fuss, no muss.

The RH is just a glorified bucket with a comfortable seat and a lid. Nothing special, but 40 bucks, and it does the job.

WAG bags can be had for a buck a pop:

I use 'em for both varieties of waste, even though it is a virtual certainty that 86Scotty is going to jump in and suggest adding a second "o" to "pop."

We've got a portable-able for the new future rig; as of now we both pee in a small waste basket at speed and strap it back to the side barn door with it's snap on top snapped in place!
We're living on the edge, it's how we roll... uh, I mean how we pee!

Lol Bianca! So many puns here, so little time. I'll just drop a deuce here with my all time favorite emoji (Thanks Jage) and roll out.

Can't believe no one has used it yet in this thread. See? Another one!

US Military surplus 100 wag bags for $100. I've actually gotten them cheaper from direct military surplus sales rather than retail, but those can be much harder to find.

You can also buy just the powder and use bag of your choice. Make sure the it's nicely sealed though:
