Hey daveb, what did you use to attach the maxtrax to the side of the van like that? I'm trying to get mine out of the yakima box to make more room.

Had a buddy weld up some compression clamps to a metal plate with pins. I cut a couple of lockable hitch pins on each set so they don't walk off when I'm away from the van.
I did have to move the ladders though. I carry 4 boards.

We seldom use the downstairs bed so I removed the platform behind the couch. We use various plastic boxes to hold our heavy stuff. The base set of boxes are about 2 inches lower that the bed when the couch is converted. We carry a sleeping bag mattress that lays across the bed and boxes. On top of the boxes float a dozen or so colored stuff sacks that are filled with our 4 season clothing, boots and shoes. Fishing gear, oil, compressor, etc go in the bumper box.

I just used a compression clamp that could be welded to. Mine was a quick get-er-done job and I haven't even painted them yet. There are some really nice compression clamps out there if you want to get fancy. Basically we just took a piece of angle iron (red) then welded it to the compression ring (white) and I took and cut off the end of a hitch pin (yellow) and had my buddy weld it to the opposite end of the angle iron. I cut a piece of hose (green) to fill the gap between the pin and the boards so they don't rattle.

On the top I bought a locking hitch pin and cut that off to weld on the top plate. I could have had my buddy use one long piece of flat iron on the bottom but the compression rings hold the boards tight. So it's three pieces of angle iron... one for each compression clamp.
Sure if someone really wants them they can use an allen wrench to pull the locking compression clamp off to get the boards. They would probably make more stealing all my LED's and solar panels or just steal the van and get it all
