Re: Freezing-weather camping

I heard that you can add vodka to the water tank and it will slow the freezing.
add just enough not to taste if making coffee or drinking.

Just heard not tested

Re: Freezing-weather camping

OKIE and others:
This is our first winter with our 2002 SMB. We have camped in a pickup camper for six winters.
If it is going to be in the 20s at night, we usually went dry camping and didn't fill the camper water tank or use the holding tank. But with the camper, a lot of that stuff was more exposed than it is in the SMB.
We have two double sleeping bags that we zip together. My wife did a lot of research on it. We ended up getting a 40 degree bag and a 0 degree bag. In cold weather, the 0 degree bag is up on top and the 40 degree on the bottom. In the summer, the 40 degree bag is on top.
On our cross-country ski campouts, we usually got by with water in a 5 gallon jug for two nights.
We're excited about the SMB and think we might be able to use the water system by running the furnace. Hope so.
We will put antifreeze in the holding tank.
We don't have a potty inside. We have a portable toilet and a porta-potty tent. Usually have to put RV antifreeze in the porta potty, too.

Re: Freezing-weather camping

Anyone ever used a 12V tank heater? Doesn't say how much it draws though.
