Fuel tank capacity

Hello all,

So I just got a scangauge ll today and I went to set it up and I need to enter my fuel tank capacity. I have a 2005 Ford Econoline E-350 extended bed 6.0L diesel with the stock fuel tank. I tried all sorts of Google searches but came up with different number of gallons such as 35, 37, etc. When I am on E, it takes between 24-25 gallons to fill it up, however, after some searches, I found out that Ford may have some sort of electronic system that tracks when you typically re-fuel and adjusts the gauge as necessary to learn your fillup caracteristics...this seems extremely strange, we fill up all the time when we are not on E but are off on a long journey.

So all I'm after is what the stock fuel tank size in gallons is. Does anyone know or have any suggestions of where or how I can find this?

Thanks in advance!!

Jason

Re: Fuel tank capacity

The standard 35-gallon Ford fuel tank had to be replaced with a modified 31-gallon unit to make room for the large transfer case.

Spurious, doesn't that only apply to Quigley 4x4's?

Re: Fuel tank capacity

I suppose I should have done this first, I called Advanced 4WD and they said they cut and modify the front of the gas tank down to make room for the transfer case. They said it ends up being between 30 and 31 gallons when they are done.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Fuel tank capacity

If you find that the 31 gallons is too small, TransferFlow can do a 46 gal tank. They are up in Chico, CA and do a great job. oclv

Re: Fuel tank capacity

The 46 Gal tank is awesome! Especially with your PSD, you can get a very long range with a full tank. It hurts the $$$ a little when filling up.

Re: Fuel tank capacity

I contacted Transflow a few months back, they don't make the 46gal mid-ship tank for converted vans anymore and told me to contact SMB. SMB said the tank they use will only work with their 4x4 conversions.

I thought SMB used Transflow tanks from what I have read here. I know the 46gal tank Transflow used to make was designed around Quigley converted vans, but just happen to fit SMB's conversions. So I figured it would work, but obviously SMB is not using Transflow tanks, or a different design from Transflow.

Re: Fuel tank capacity

I think it is the same old tank from 2003 and earlier. But, because of emissions they can't certify it for later vans. But, Salem-Kroger and SMB continue to fit to current production.
