Good to know that other than the inconvenience and overall BS of the theft itself, you feel you were treated fairly. I hope my insurance does as well in similar conditions but would rather not go through that in the first place.

Yeah, it was a pain in the butt...and it put us back in a tent for a while. Just happy to have a new van now, especially one as nice as the one I found.

Make fliers with a good van pic and $100 reward. Give them to pizza delivery people.

Spoke to a South SF cop today. They haven't found it. They've been actively looking for it though - apparently they get some sort of special bonus for recovering stolen vehicles with an occupant inside

Hey hey hey!!! Hot on the trail! I would do some Sunday driving around certain "sectors" of the city...plus, IF they find it, I would ask the Ins. Company if you can buy it back? Usually you can for pennies on the dollar (they don't want it)!! You can then have two...one for traveling, and one for when your in the doghouse!!! Good luck and can't wait to hear about the recovery!!! When you're as stupid as the thieves driving it around, your gonna get caught!

Most stolen vehicles from CA that have any value are driven to Mexico or shipped out in a large container. Since it is being driven around CA it probably has been to Mexico and has Mexican plates on it. The CA plate scanners are only as good as the plates that hey "see". The guy who bought it probably paid <$20,000 for it and is driving around CA showing it to his friends and relatives.

Not up here. Mexican plates are very rare in these parts.. San Diego, sure.

I'd guess Greg's old van has plates from another E250 and it's never left the Bay Area.

A friend of ours had his old beater van stolen in West Palm Beach. He was driving around town a couple days later and pulled up behind it at a stop light. Him being a young stud, he got out of his car and ran up to the van, climbed in the back doors and said "Hi, how do you like this van". The kids in the van looked at him and said they liked it. He said "you know this is my van". They hopped out of the van and ran away.

A work associate and her husband just saw my old van in the parking lot of the South San Francisco Denny's on Tuesday, so it's still in the area.
