So I had a thought the other day when I realized that my 4" lifted E350 wouldn't fit in any car wash by less than an inch. Why not buy a set of tiny stock used 225s to throw on, just to cruise to the car wash in, so it would meet the height requirement?

Has anyone else had this idea?!

Too much work for a drive through car wash. I get mine hand washed for reasonable price.

All good feedback, I guess it just depends on everyone's situation. With my vehicle lift I figured it would take me all of 10 minutes to swap the wheels and be on my way. I just tried the self service wash and compared to our local Kaddy Car Wash it was less effective for the same price. If I had a place I thought I could take it to for a wash that's cheaper than 10$ I would probably do that, but I don't.

BrianW- I don't know if that would work with my E rated tires.

Sure it will work. I wouldn't worry about the tires, and probably easier than changing them.

At what point do you stop airing down? I'm running 265/75r16 BFG Ko2s with a just off the lot weight for a cargo van.

It's probably too far for you to go from Hillsboro, but the "Washman" washes in Portland (on MLK and also out on Airport way) accommodate all the really high rigs, with racks and all. According to the guy there, they just ask people to "please take your ladder off before coming in". When I looked quizzically at him, he said, "you know, like plumbers and painters and stuff". 😄
I've been there a couple of times now and they do a decent job if, like me, you don't want to be out in the cold or rain washing your van. It's only $7 till you get over 104", then it goes up some.

But you're lucky to be able to switch out your wheels so fast. I'd do it!

uuummmm, I think he meant airing down the one inch you say you need for clearance, and then immediately airing back up after the wash.
