Headroom in Ford SMB

We are seriously looking in the used market for a Sportsmobile. We checked out a Ford model and to our surprise, when the popup roof is down, our heads hit the ceiling when sitting in the back seats. Since we have 6 foot tall daughters that sometimes travel with us, this may be an issue. Is this normal for all Ford SMBs? We started looking at Sprinters, which we also like, but that limits our options in the used market due to price and the fact that not all Sprinters have pop up roofs.
Any advice?

Thanks!
JC

Re: Headroom in Ford SMB

Did the SMB you looked at have the penthouse bed in place? That reduces the headroom. I'm 6'1" and since I'm doing a home build, my rear seat is lower than typical the typical 50 plan for this reason.

Hmmm: I have the Sportsmobile Voyager top (the Sportsmobile Cruiser top is even 6" taller) and I have never hit my head when sitting or even standing...

Re: Headroom in Ford SMB

I just checked the bench seat in our 2002 EB50. I'm 6' and sitting bolt upright my head just hits the bottom of the bed platform. If I sit back in my usual relaxed slouch I have 4" of headroom. I never realized it was so low, our medium size dogs are the only ones who ride back there.

I would have enough head room to ride back there; the problem is lack of view. It's like center row on one of those wide body flying cattle cars.
