Perhaps your system is the proof that with this particular A/C unit it will work. I would be cool to know what the inrush current is exactly.

Excellent point, Eric. Our A/C unit has a hard-start capacitor so it's likely that the capacitor is providing the necessary start-up current and not the coach batteries. In any case, I have personal experience that I can run our roof-top A/C off of a 15 amp shore power circuit. More investigation is required to determine what the inrush current is and whether that current comes from the capacitor or the batteries.

Do you know the capacitor size?

I have not pulled the cover to verify but I believe it is in the range of 140-150 uF. (If it helps, we have the 13.5 kBTU Dometic Penguin A/C.)

It will apply to many things, but especially electrics, that things can be approached in a simple manner. Once you start digging and dealing with finer details, topics that originally seemed somewhat straightforward can become quite detailed and complex.

Fortunately, within this group there are some very knowledgeable individuals, who are happy to share their knowledge. This place offers quite an education..

As an aside, when I updated some parts of my Starcool (1998 vintage) I added a hard-start capacitor. I haven't tried it with a small generator as I don't have one, but now am curious. I'll have to try and check that out.
