How did you make your Reflectix window shades?

Or any window shades? I can get some Reflectix and cut it to fit all of the windows i want to cover, but i'm curious if it's easier to glue it to something rigid so it keeps it's shape, and perhaps all window shades could be stored behind a seat stacked together or something?
I'm wodering if Reflectix cut JUST bigger than the windows would stuff behind the trim and stay in them (only while camping), and also wondering if Reflectix is the best way to do a big windshield shade including driver and passenger front windows?

It does for me. I just cut it about a 1/2 inch larger than the window. Don't make it fit too perfect...it seems like mine always shrinks a little after hot sunlight hits it for a few months. I never backed it with anything because I fold it up and store it in a small space. For the back windows I used a blue reflectix window shade cut to fit that stays in place all of the time...looks a little less homeless looking

I'd like to have some custom high tech looking inserts but I'm lazy. Mine are just now looking like its time for new ones...they've lasted since 2006.

Same as Dave, I just cut them a bit larger and stuff them behind the plastic trim. No backing either due to storage.

I have used reflectix and also made some from styrofoam.

Here is a link to a topic where I posted a couple pictures of the foam ones. The wife likes the reflectix better, so of course that's what we use now.

Same here on the cut-larger-than-window... works for our two in the rear doors and two in the curb side slide in our chevy. We also made two for our front side windows that have a lower tab that fits into the grab handle and keeps them in place.

On a continuing thought, my wife put up a window screen attached with velcro on the curb front window and we can crack it ~2" still covered by the weather tech rain/wind deflector and have that side's reflectix cut so the breeze can come through with the roof vent open. does a nice job of flow through of fresh air.

I meant is it an insulation for keeping heat in or out or to block light. I never had the need to do this and wonder what it does for those that do.

Oh, gotcha. I have a passenger van so way too much light and no privacy in some situations. I want it to do both, block light sometimes and provide privacy sometimes.
