Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

I recently stopped keeping track of fuel and mileage. After 5.5 yrs, 132 fillups, 48000 miles, $10,000 & 3400 gallons of fuel it was always the same basic 13.6 mpg average from day 1. It is a very consistant 12.5 when offroad was included in trip, 13.5 city stop and go, 14.5 when just basic road miles. I once got over 15mpg on a long road trip (big whoop). Synthetic oil and vehicle load make no noticeable difference, tire air pressure does, kayaks on roof does.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

Over 15,000 miles, my E350 RB 5.4L V8 home brew is running 16.5-17mpg on the highway (so anywhere from 55mph to 75mph) and, when in town as a "daily driver" about 12 mpg (fortunately, I don't drive it locally often).

There's not much of a mileage hit in the mountains of UT and NM, but quite a hit in headwind in east NM or west TX.

I'm about to add my Thule Evolution 1600 roof box -- no idea what sort of mileage hit I'll take.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

We've gotten 11 mph on a 100-mile, dirt road, rocky route called the Magruder Road across central Idaho. It was a 5mph road on sharp rocks, etc.
When we got out on the open road at 65 mph, we've gotten as high as 15 mph.
Depends on the roads, speed, and what gear you're in.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

Last tank back from picking the magicbus we averaged 15.7 MPG thru Kansas and Missouri. It's mostly flat but some hills, doing about 70 the whole way...

15.2MPG on our last 2,000 mile journey to Olympic National Park on the Pacific Coast and back, with a hundred miles of gravel roads thrown in. Our 2006 4X4 diesel SMB was heavily loaded with two humans, two labradogs and two weeks worth of dog food.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

About six months ago, somebody on the forum asked me what my mileage was running:

2010 Ford E250 RB 5.4L EFI V8 gas / penthouse / no rack on top / OEM front bumper / OEM tires, 60 psi front 80 psi rear

Overall average after reading odometer for 757.8 miles, using same gas pump at 1/2 tank for fill-up with same technique and similar cool temps outside, driving both city and highway

= 13.4 mpg

Seems in line with many others. Looking over the forum, V10 gas to 7.0 diesel, towing and not towing, head wind or not, run the gamut from 8 mpg to 24 mpg (not counting Sprinters).
